Black & white sheets of glass were cut into strips, a piece of glass placed over the top and fired for 24 hours in the kiln to make a striped piece of glass.
The striped piece was cut into strips of alternating black and white squares, arranged in a chequerboard pattern; and fired again for 24 hours in the kiln to fuse the glass together.
The chequerboard pattern was then cut into 1 centimetre strips of narrow alternating black and white rectangles. The strips were cut and arranged in a crisscross pattern. Two layers of clear glass pieces were cut and fitted in between the strips to complete the pattern; and fired in the kiln for 24 hours to fuse the glass together.
This final patterned glass was fired again for 24 hours on a mold to shape it.
