Precision Items
These handmade glass precision works are generally made by measuring, cutting and fitting pieces of glass together to make one layer, and then topped with one clear piece of glass. In the simplist process there are two firings, one to fuse the glass together, and the second to shape the result. Often, a full scale sketch with the dimensions of the individual pieces is drawn first.
There are variations to that theme, Sometimes separate patterns are created first (then 6 mm thick), recut and fitted to create more complicated patterns. These variations require additional coldworking between firings. Some items can require half a dozen firings.
Each firing process takes approx. 24 hours.

Interpretation of Ice-Crystals Series.
A sheet of clear glass was cut into approximately 1 centimeter wide strips, topped with a clear sheet of glass; and fired for 24 hours in the kiln to fuse the glass together.
The resultant clear self-patterned striped sheet was cut into squares with the self pattern running diagonally. The squares were fitted together to make the centre design. Other smaller squares were cut into triangles to make the corner pieces. These sections were connected by 12 pieces of clear glass, arranged differently in two layers creating a subtle geometric pattern to compliment the centre design. The assembled pieces were fired for 24 hours in the kiln to fuse the glass together.
The final patterned glass was fired again for 24 hours on a mold to shape it.
220mm square approx.

Interpretation of Ice-Crystals Series.
A sheet of clear glass was cut into approximately 1 centimeter wide strips, topped with a clear sheet of glass; and fired for 24 hours in the kiln to fuse the glass together.
The resultant clear self-patterned striped sheet was cut into squares with the self pattern running parallel to two sides, and the squares cut into triangles. Suitable triangles were placed together to create the squares in the corners and the centre. The squares were fitted together with 12 pieces of clear glass arranged differently in two layers creating a subtle geometric pattern to compliment the self-pattern in the centre and corner squares. The assembled pieces were fired for 24 hours in the kiln to fuse the glass together.
The final patterned glass was fired again for 24 hours on a mold to shape it.

Interpretation of Ice-Crystals Series.
This work was made from 28 separately cut pieces of clear glass designed to fit together as a geometric pattern, topped with a clear piece of glass to create a very subtle effect; and fired for 24 hours in the kiln to fuse the glass together.
The final patterned glass was fired again for 24 hours on a mold to shape it.
